More than a decade ago I was a PhD student in Translation Studies at University College London (UCL). In addition to working as a postgraduate assistant, I also joined The Writing Lab, UCL’s then newly founded writing centre, as a tutor. At the Writing Lab, we supported students of all degree levels in different ways, offering everything from 1:1 consultations to workshops on academic writing.
With the Writing Lab at Otherwhere Editing I aim to do something similar: I provide resources and support to help you improve your writing skills and increase your knowledge about scholarly publishing to help you succeed in your career. The Writing Lab is not just for individuals starting their academic career, looking for advice on turning their PhD into a book or seeking help with writing a rebuttal letter for the first time. Rather, it is for those who know that there is always something more to learn.
Currently, you can find the following here:
RESOURCES FOR ACADEMIC WRITERS: An ever-growing database of resources on academic writing, publishing, and more.
BLOG “ADVICE FROM THE OWL”: Regularly published blog posts on different aspects of academic writing and publishing. Interviews with scholars around the world, working in different disciplines.
THE OTHERWHERE WRITING LAB NEWSLETTER (OWL NOTES): Sent out once a month, I share online opportunities and webinars, recommended reads, updates on newly added resources and blog posts on the website, and more.
If there are any resources you would like to suggest or topics you would like me to discuss in a blog post, suggestions are always welcome!
